I-70 Construction Ground Transportation Delays
Vail CO Travel Alert. Current construction projects on I-70 between Evergreen and Idaho Springs Colorado will cause significant travel delays on I-70. This will impact ground transportation to and from Vail, Beaver Creek, Aspen, and Summit County and the Denver International Airport (DIA). Mandating closures every 20 minutes, based on a particular month and completion deadlines. This reconstruction will continue to frustrate travelers for hours on end to and from the ski mountain destinations.
Travel Recommendation – Fly to Eagle County Airport (EGE)
As value of your time is always rising, B-Line Xpress’ Vail CO Travel Alert is encouraging visitors to Vail, Aspen, and Beaver Creek to consider flying directly into Eagle County Airport (EGE) versus Denver International (DIA). Eagle County Airport continues to add new flights direct into EGE. Recently adding flights from San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Newark, JFK, Seattle, San Francisco, just to name a few. This represents a refined and sensible choice for your journey to the mountains.
Below are links to Eagle/Vail Airport (EGE) airlines information.

Given the on-going construction, B-Line Xpress highly recommends that loyal clients and new customers consider flying directly into Eagle airport for a more seamless travel experience. This will allow you to thoroughly enjoy the slopes and mountain life experience. You deserve it!

About Floyd Hill Construction Project
The I-70 Floyd Hill project from west of Evergreen to eastern Idaho Springs encompasses an eight-mile section of the I-70 Mountain Corridor. The project limits extend from Beaver Brook (Exit 248) to Idaho Springs (Exit 241).
Rock scaling operations began in early October and include the following impacts:
- Rock scaling began in early October and will last up to two months
- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays – Expect 20-minute traffic holds, up to six times per day, approximately every 60 to 75 minutes. Expect up to 45-minute delays as the traffic queue clears
- Westbound I-70 traffic held east of Hidden Valley (Exit 243)
- Eastbound I-70 traffic held west of Veterans Memorial Tunnels
- Traffic may also be held on County Road 314
Rock blasting operations began in late October and include the following impacts:
- Rock blasting began in late October and will last through 2026. Rock blasting and scaling may happen on the same day
- Westbound I-70 traffic held at Homestead Road, eastbound I-70 traffic held west of Veterans Memorial Tunnels
- Expect intermittent traffic holds on Central City Parkway, County Road 314, US 6 and US 40
- Expect several traffic holds daily Monday – Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Fridays, 9 a.m. to noon
- Plan for up to 45-minute delays. Delays could extend to 4 p.m.
- Rock scaling may be necessary after rock blasting to clear any loose rocks above I-70 traffic

This reconstruction of the I-70 in Colorado represents a significant leap in modernizing the state’s crucial transport. Please be aware, this main artery into the mountain will be significantly impacting travel times, spanning eight miles between Idaho Springs and Evergreen. This ambitious project with budgets exceeding $700M is set to enhance traffic safety, alleviate congestion, and protect local wildlife. Unfortunately, we have three (3) + years to deal with the Floyd Hill construction and anticipate significant delays. Trip travel time to Denver may eventually lead to 4 and 5 hours + journeys, simply to travel 120 miles to and from Denver International Airport (DEN).
